(3) Joseph Arthur Fraser --

Fraser, Joseph A.- private September 24, 1861 . Discharged December 20,1862 (M226 roll 21) -- Co H, 35th Georgia Regimental Infantry Volunteers, Army of Northern Virginia.

(Excerpts from a letter received through the Jack Findley branch of the family): "Ma's father was married before and had several children. He also served in the war but come thru unharmed. His name was Joseph Frasier. When the war was over, he had just gotten over the measels. Measels had killed a good many of the men in his Company. There was a spring a short distance from their house where the family obtained their water supply and where his wife did the family wash. When he was released from the army, he came to that spring, called to his family until they heard him. He then told them to get him a change of clothes, wash cloth, towels and soap and bring it to the spring. He then left the area until this was done. He was afraid his family would catch the measels from his clothing. He went back to the spring, heated water in the wash pot, took a bath and proceded to burn everything he had touched before he went to the house to be with his family. Evidently his precautions were in vain for his family took the measels. His wife and 2 teenage daughters died in one week's time. Later he met and married Frances and they became my great grandparents, Joseph and Frances Frasier. They are buried at Beulah Baptist Church in Dekalb County, Alabama."

Joseph A. Fraser was the "1832 Winner of the Gold Land Lottery - lot won in original Cherokee County, GA (Present Day NW Ga). Joseph Frasier is living in Trouts District, Hall County, GA, drew lot #282-2-1."
